The concept of relics exist in many religions. I find it an endless source of morbid curiosity. In Christianity, there are hundreds of thousands of relics.
A Saint is a dead person that was exceptionally holy and close to God in life. God can act through the Saints if you pray to them. God finds it even easier to act through their deceased remains if you have them handy!
For centuries Catholics have been dividing up saintly remains to touch and to kiss in hopes that their prayers will be answered.
I am fascinated by the idea of objects having supposed transformative qualities. Back in 2015 I wasn’t long after starting my Art degree and became equally captivated by the transformative quality of clay as a material.
I created my own relic objects using a wide range of different materials and ceramic processes that I was learning about at the time, from porcelain to lustres and from slip casting to coil building. I won a Future Makers award from the Design and Crafts Council in 2016 for this series.
